John Federowicz became president of Electrical Distribution Design in 2011, primarily for the purpose of commercializing the DEW/ISM advanced modeling and analysis software product, and to strengthen and expand EDD’s consulting services capabilities. The underlying technology used in DEW/ISM is specifically designed to enable engineers and operators to design and operate the grid of the future by bringing together the different functions of topology management, engineering analysis, operations support, and feeder control.
As the utility industry shifts from passive distribution feeders to the modern smart grid with active feeders, the capabilities provided in the DEW/ISM software will become a critical element of each utility’s technology footprint.
In the past, John has worked for Bass & Company, Imperial Irrigation District, UMS Group and Pennsylvania Power and Light Company. While at PPL, he led a technology and re-engineering project that provided an early focus on delivering a single source electrical network model. He has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University.
