Trace to Brother Tool

The Trace to Brother tool enables the user to graphically highlight the selected component's forward path, along with its Brother Component (first component in forward trace from the selected component's feeder that is not fed by the selected component, but shares the same supply source), when applicable.

This utility, initialized from the View menu or Circuit Tools dialog, begins by launching the selection procedure (i.e. mouse pointer-finger) for user to select the component of interest.

Cable "Cb11" is shown being selected in this sample circuit.

After selecting component, the Trace Path to Brother dialog opens and selected component's forward path trace and associated brother component (when applicable) are highlighted in the drawing window.

The dialog provides user interface with drawing while the utility is running.

The top window displays general information for the application, i.e. highlighting scheme, etc.

Zoom Display allows user to control zoom level [Up] / [Down] of drawing, while running the utility.  The displayed value defines the zoom factor used during operation.

User Scroll Options allow user to scroll (or pan) drawing view, while running utility.  The Offset Pan Value defines the step size (per drawing unit length) that each (Left/Right/Up/Down) selection pans the drawing view.

[Pan to Brother Component] - pans drawing view to the brother component (when applicable) of the selected part.

[Pick] - returns user to selection routine, allowing selection of another component for Brother and Forward Trace view.

[Cancel] - exits the Trace to Brother utility.

This shows the drawing window view after selecting Cb11 for the Trace to Brother operation.

The Red highlighting begins at the selected component and continues downstream (i.e. away from supplying source), showing its Forward Trace Path. In this case, the forward path is shown extending through components Cb12 and Cb13.

When applicable (i.e. if a brother component exists), the Orange highlighting shows the brother component for the selection. For selected (Cb11), the brother component is shown to be Ln12.
