The following information describes common fields typically found on component dialogs, organized by general functionality.
Part level data defines general information that is common throughout any system for the given part. It does not depend on system or locational data, for example- defining properties for a voltage regulator, or a 16in gate valve.
Description - Provides the general description for the selected part in the Name drop-down.
Name - provides drop-down selection of a part from the database, with common relational characteristics, for the selected installation site.
Component Level information defines the local and system characteristic data for one (single) installation of the part, for example- local descriptions, locational data, connections, etc, at a specific installation of the part in the system.
Local Name
- Character
string used to describe the local installation of a component in the system,
which can be set to display on network drawing via Display Position dialog.
Text - Extended
character string used to add information regarding local installation
of the component, also set for display via Display
Position dialog.
Dist. from Sub (or Gen) - DEW calculated
value of the distance that a discrete component, or the endpoint of a segment
component (e.g. cable, pipe, etc) lies from the substation (or
Generator), in thousands of feet (1000 ft). For example, a value of 0.4 for a disconnect
switch would indicate that the component is installed 400 feet from the
substation, while a value of 5.3 for a cable would indicate that its ending
point is 5300 feet from the station.
UID
- Unique
Identification (alphanumeric) string used to uniquely
identify the installed component in the system. (Display
property set as above.) Although DEW accepts duplications entered manually
for this string, the user can direct program to automatically check for
duplicates and assign/reassign UID values from the Circuit Tools dialog.
Geo. Location
- DEW calculated value of the (X,Y) coordinates for an installed discrete
component, or the start-point
of a segment component (e.g. cable, pipe, etc).
Length:
Auto Calculate - when selected, DEW calculates the component length from the geographic locational data by using the (X,Y) coordinates from the drawing. The calculated value is displayed in the window (1000ft).
1000ft [___] - Based on option setting, the Length window either allows user to manually enter the segment length, e.g. a one mile cable segment gets entered as 5.280, or displays the (Auto) Calculated value.
|
Note! |
Length field/setting is only applicable for segment type components (e.g. cables, pipes, etc). Discrete type components (e.g. switches, valves, etc) are treated as having "zero" length. |
Operational information and settings provide the operational status and parameters for components. These (often time or event dependent) values define the current operational state of a component and may influence user or application interactions.
Lock (Cmp) - When set, the lock component status flag prevents the user from making certain component changes and updates:
"Fast-switch" component operation, i.e. open or closing a switching device (e.g. breaker, valve, etc) via double-right click on component, is non-functional. When locked, state changes can be made only by opening the component dialog and toggling the Open-Close Condition radio buttons, or directly by an application run.
Cannot add or update Measurements, with associated command button (on properties dialog) inactive.
Cannot add or update Additional Equipment, with associated command button inactive
Cannot select the [Parms] command button to access any of its associated parameters or submenus.
Lost Power/Service - Status flag indicating that the component has lost power or service. Flag may result from an application run or from user interaction, e.g. throwing a breaker switch results in loss of power to circuit or closing shutoff valve results in loss of water service. The indicating color for lost-service components is defined in the (ApiWorkDef) database table.
Failed Condition - status flag, which may be listed by phase for electrical components, indicating that component has experienced an operational failure. Flag may result from an application run or from user interaction, for example- lightning strike blows transformer or causes pump failure, water line breaks, etc.
Operation Time - allows specification to characterize component operation between Normal Hours and After Hours, with the hour of day specified being when the desired mode of operation starts.
Year Installed - indicates the installation year of component.
|
Note! |
If an application is run with the simulation date (year) before a component's install year, that component will not be included in the system for that run. The model will run as if any such components do not exist, connecting the next adjacent parts from each side that are installed in the run year. |
Phase
- indicates the phases present for the component, as applicable. For
example: when adding a load, the Phase box selection indicates the phases
to which the load will be added. The phase box
will be inactive or hidden for components where phase information is fixed
by part definition or not applicable.
Component properties dialogs also contain command buttons that launch follow-on dialogs or submenus for additional properties or control settings. Commands unique to a certain component type (or group) of dialogs are documented with the applicable dialogs. The following lists command buttons that are common to many component property dialogs and documents their functionality.
General functionality for common windows commands and features found on dialogs include:
Display Window - When applicable, this read-only window typically appears just above the command button set and displays descriptive messages related to the last menu selection.
[OK] - Command button to accept current selections as user input and exit dialog.
[Cancel] - Command button that exits dialog and does not incorporate any changes made since last opened.
[Reset] - Command button that immediately returns all items on the menu to their default settings.
[Help] - Command button that launches Help application.
[About] - Command button that displays version, copyright and proprietary information.
