Underground Cables and Overhead Lines typically compose the bulk of the electrical distribution system and are considered as separate component types in DEW.
See General Dialog Details for information on common dialog fields and commands, as only the highlighted fields and commands unique to the Cables and Lines dialogs are addressed in this topic.
The cable properties dialog, shown below for a Distribution Cable, is generally common for both Lines and Cables, except that Overhead Line dialogs do not have the Construction Type setting.
Construction Type - Cable segments are defined to run Overhead, in Conduit, or direct Buried.
Note: Line segments are defined as Overhead runs, thus this field is not applicable.
Additional Rating - this flag is set by application, depending on whether component has had Additional (Ampere) Ratings set using the [Parms] command. Additional Ratings allow user to locally override or supplement the default component ratings. See Additional Ratings section of Miscellaneous Parameters topic for more details.
Configuration Settings - summarize the configuration details of wiring selections set in the Configuration dialog.
Construction - displays general name for selected configuration.
Phasing - displays the (A-B-C) phase wire positions for set configuration.
Conductors - displays names of selected Phase and Neutral conductors for set configuration.
Cables & Lines Unique Command Buttons:
[Configuration] - opens the (Line or Cable) Configuration dialog, which allows user to view or modify the configuration settings.
[Load] - opens the (Line or Cable) Load dialog, which allows the user to specify the annual load growth, load distribution factor, load priority, voltage dependency factor, and the distribution transformer type and turns ratio.
[Spot Load] - opens the (Line or Cable) Spot Load dialog, which allows the user to specify the kW and/or kVA loads for each phase. Note: Spot loads are not time dependant.
[Customer Load] - opens the (Line or Cable) Customer Load dialog, which allows the user to specify customer loading for the selected component.
[Special Load] - opens the (Line or Cable) Special Load dialog, which allows the user to define a special load for the selected component.
[Impedance] - opens the (Line or Cable) Impedance dialog, which allows the user to enter positive and zero sequence impedance in ohms.
[ZMx] - opens the Impedance Matrix dialog, which allows user to specify impedance values for component.
Ratings (Amps) - depending on installed options and database configuration, the Ratings area may be used to display Normal and Emergency current ratings for component from the database, with seasonal (i.e. Temperature) dependencies if applicable. As shown in the reference (Cable) dialog, the component current ratings are displayed for SN (Summer Normal), SE (Summer Emergency), WN (Winter Normal), and WE (Winter Emergency).
