DEW Core

DEW Software is structured into a core set of modules and optional extensions. Core modules, which are included in every installation, allow users to construct a fully functional integrated system model and run basic analysis applications. Every DEW installation includes the base set of applications, along with the core toolset and program features.

Power Flow

Power Flow solves both IEEE standard distribution and transmission system circuits, with capability to solve downtown meshed networks for major cities in less than a second.  Validated on systems with more than one million multi-phase nodes and thousands of loops, Power Flow supports real time solutions with distributed computations. It can also utilize interfaces to National Renewable Energy Lab and Clean Power Research to incorporate historical and forecasted solar generation data. The Power Flow application is a prerequisite for Network fault Analysis.

Network Fault Analysis

Network Fault Analysis calculates fault currents for radial and looped systems, utilizing the Power Flow application. It works for multiple substations looped together and analyzes fault currents from distributed resource generators.

Load Estimation

Load Estimation is a prerequisite application for Power Flow Analysis. It combines start of circuit measurements, interior circuit measurements,  kWHr measurements, load research statistics, single large customer (kW, kVar, kVA) load measurements, special load measurements, and load growth factors (either for entire circuit or individual load) to estimate kW and kVar loading for every customer as a function of the time.

Line Immittance

Line Immittance is a prerequisite application for Load Estimation. It calculates the line and cable impedances/admittances as a function of construction, temperature, and frequency.

Some of the standard tools found in DEW include:

Circuit Data Checker - checks model for errors in transformer-tap connections, component characteristics, or data consistencies.

Customer Class Load Profiler - summarizes monthly circuit loading by customer class.

Planning Tool - allows user to define and step through a circuit modification project plan in the model before implementation.

Plotting Tool - plots results from analysis, versus time or distance from substation.

Load Research Statistics - generates summary listing of consumption data by month per customer class.

Load Scaling - updates attached loads of circuit to correspond with actual field measurements or SCADA data.

Loading Analysis - determines peak loading time and conditions by circuit.

Transformer Load Management - analyzes distribution transformers loading to determine min/max conditions and percent loading utilization.

Some of the common program features in DEW include:

Attach Measurements of actual field data from dataset or SCADA input.

Color model view by circuit, phase, component type, variable range display.

Easily check/update electrical connectivity in model.

Run analyses and set display-view to include all or only selected circuits in the model.

Search/Pan to location by component (name, type, etc.) or geographical coordinates.

Show selected analyses results directly at applicable model components.
